Themes for Frances: Bio

Themes for Frances - musicians 3

Themes for Frances are a band from Northern New Jersey, featuring Josh Steele on vocals and guitar, Chris Solinski on bass and pedal action, and Jay Tangney on drums and backing vocals. They play rock music similar to early '90s era grunge and experimental rock. At times quiet, at times loud; this is the sound of twenty notions going down.

JHS - words&music

Inspired by the many sounds of Sonic Youth, driven by the power of music in the early '90s "grunge" era, suspended by the promise of great music in the dark corners of Brooklyn (Mictlan) and north Jersey (Bern and the Brights, Echo & Boo): there is hope for music yet.

Themes for Frances

Themes for Frances: the name derives from Frances Farmer, an actress from Seattle, WA wrongly accused of being "crazy" and sent to various asylums and mental hospitals for "treatment". The truth is that Frances Farmer was a woman not afraid to speak her mind at a time when women's thoughts weren't welcome. She was locked up and tortured for being honest. The state of Washington tried to break her down, but it took years of continued abuse to break her spirit.

"Themes" refers to some of the dominant ideas in her life as well as our own lives.

1. passion- Frances was a passionate woman. Find your fire, and be passionate about it!

2. life is a journey- everything changes, nothing stays the same. We are active participants in our lives. Understand that life is a journey, and that you may have to go it alone.

3. a theme, as related to music, is the central point from which one creates a set of variations .
